IIM-K `Backwaters' festival a big draw

MORE than 150 students from as many as 21 premier business schools across the country such as IIM-B, XLRI, NITIE, SP Jain and ICFAI converged to participate in Backwaters - the annual management festival organised by the Indian Institute of Management-Kozhikode.

Over 30 teams participated in 4L - the marketing game. Innovation, design and creative thinking were the key features of this event in which participants had to design an advertising campaign, according to press release from IIM-K.

Konsultant, the systems game featured a quiz and a simulated game that put to test the participants' strategic thinking and risk taking abilities. In this game simulated online, teams had to manage a high technology company in a highly dynamic and competitive world. The game turned out to be a big hit with the participants.

Kautilya, the strategy game was another major attraction that lasted for the entire two days of the fest.

The game tested the participants' fundamentals of management strategy. With simulated financial exchange and various operational scenarios being part of the game, the teams had a challenging task.

Other activities included a simulation game, a finance game, as well as a paper presentation on functional areas such as marketing, finance, systems and operations.

This had an overwhelming participation, the release said. There was also a live case study sponsored by Mahindra British Telecom. The case was based on real situations in the telecom industry.
