Vizag port sets record in cargo handling

Visakhapatnam , Feb. 1

VISAKHAPATNAM port has established a new record by handling 47.38 lakh tonnes of cargo during January, surpassing its own previous record of 45.86 lakh tonnes handled in July 2001.

According to a press release issued by the port trust, it is the highest handled by any Indian port in a month so far.

The port is maintaining its prime position among major ports for the fifth year in succession.

It has so far handled more than 40 million tonnes during the financial year, with iron ore and pellets accounting for more than 10 million tonnes.
