Bangalore , Feb. 1

MAJOR apparel brands such as Madura, Zodiac and Weekender will lead the show when the first South India Garment Fair comes to town this month.

The fair, to be held from February 13 to 15, will have over 105 exhibitors from the manufacturing, distribution, accessories and retail segments and also present a fashion show involving 12 brands, according to the Clothing Manufacturers' Association of India.

The CMAI Karnataka Chairman, Mr Satish Mahajan, said a southern garment fair was returning to the city after 20 years.

The city employs 3 lakh garment workers who number more than IT professionals. The sector has improved its performance by leaps, growing from a turnover of Rs 10-20 crore in the 1970s to a staggering Rs 4,000 crore today.

Bangalore also houses leading international buyer brands and national majors, Mr Mahajan said.
