AP bags e-governance awards

HYDERABAD: The Andhra Pradesh Government has bagged five awards for "exemplary implementation of e-governance during 2004-05". The Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (Government of India) announced 28 awards in 10 categories.

The Rural e-Seva in West Godavari district has won the `Golden ICON Award' for its `Innovative Operations and Best Practices'. Mana TV, also a Government venture, won the bronze award in the same category.

The Forest Department has been selected for the `Silver ICON' under `Trail Blazing Application of the Year' category for employing Geographical Information System and Geographical Positioning System in mapping of vegetation cover in the State.

According to a press release, the awards will be presented on February 3 to the winners by Mr Dayanidhi Maran, Union Minister for Communications and Information Technology, at the eighth National e-Governance Conference to be held in Bhubaneshwar.
