Hyderabad , Feb. 1

CHEMSPEC India is being organised by DMG World Media (UK), publishers of Specialty Chemicals, in association with Chemical Weekly, during February 23-24 at the HITEX exhibition centre in Hyderabad.

Over 200 companies from India, China, Europe and the US will be participating in the two-day event, which is expected to attract nearly 5,000 visitors.

ChemSpec India offers the Indian chemical industry an opportunity to showcase its capabilities to a global audience, according to Mr Ravi Raghavan, Editor, Chemical Weekly and a partner in the event.

Some of the leading names from India that will be participating at ChemSpec are Dr Reddy's Laboratories, Divi's Laboratories, Matrix Laboratories and Sun Pharmaceuticals. Internationally renowned fine chemical companies such as Celanese (US), Clariant (Switzerland), Sigma Aldrich (US) and Albemarle (US) will also be participating. Chinese producers will be present in two pavilions organised by State-run export promotion councils.

The global active pharmaceutical ingredient market (for human consumption) alone is expected to rise from $52 billion today to over $70 billion by 2008, and India's share in this could go up to as much as 10 per cent, given the impressive performance to date.

The exhibition will be preceded by a business conference on February 21-22 on the theme `India: A Strategic Manufacturing & Research Destination.' There will be 20 presentations from experts from India and abroad, and more than 200 registered delegates are expected to attend the event.

The conference will include a keynote address by Dr Enrico Polastro, Arthur D. Little - a well-known consultant to the fine chemicals industry; presentations from the Andhra Pradesh Government and an overview of the Indian chemical industry by the President, Indian Chemicals Manufacturers Association. The techno-commercial aspects of the business will be covered by senior executives of the industry.
