Will VAT help?

The implementation of VAT is likely to increase paper-work and corruption too! Only the most simplified tax-system with a single-point tax at manufacturing level can result in better tax-collection at much-reduced cost that with least harassment to all responsible for paying local and Central taxes.

The tax revenue must be distributed across the Centre and the States by devising some unanimously-arrived-at tax-sharing formula

The practical experience of all those traders and manufacturers of textiles put to difficulty by the Cenvat system put in place by the earlier NDA regime reveals the hardships of such a chain system of tax collection mainly because of the corrupt tax collection system in the country.
