Software Invensys consolidating India operations Our Bureau
Hyderabad , Feb. 3 INVENSYS plc has embarked on a consolidation of its Indian operations that would see it bolstering its manpower and expanding the scope of development work. The Chief Executive Officer of Invensys, Mr Richard Haythornthwaite, said: "I am on a mission to India to assess the current status of various development centres based here and see how these could be further consolidated to broaden the scope of work. Though there is no significant growth in terms of manpower addition, India has emerged as a strategic base for software development and product support. "We could also explore the possibility of some manufacturing options down the line. However, the current focus for manufacturing continues to be China." Addressing a press conference here, Mr Haythornthwaite said that the company had grown from 20 people (after exiting Baan) to about 220 now and plans to expand this to about 300 by the year-end. "We are looking at exploring ways to bring in other development work though nothing has been finalised." "The Asia-Pacific market has emerged as a major focus area for the company and total revenues could go up from the present 15 per cent. Japan continues to be a tough market constantly forcing us to up investments there." "Therefore, we are currently focusing on China with more manufacturing bases for precision and control systems. When India is ready, we could consider a manufacturing base," he said.
