HLL does a P&G; hikes detergent prices

Our Bureau

Mumbai , Feb. 3

CLOSE on the heels of Procter and Gamble (P&G) hiking prices of some packs of Ariel and Tide, Hindustan Lever Ltd (HLL) has also announced an increase in the prices of its detergents.

The FMCG major has increased the prices of Surf Excel Quickwash, Surf Excel Blue and Rin Advanced Powder. "The products with the new prices will be in the market in the next few days as the earlier stock gets over," HLL said in a news release.

One kg Surf Excel Quick Wash will now cost Rs 103 as against Rs 99 earlier, a 4-per-cent increase. A 500-gm pack will cost Rs 53 instead of Rs 50, higher by 6 per cent.

In the case of Surf Excel Blue, a 1.5-kg pack will cost Rs 103 instead of Rs 99 and 1-kg pack of Rin Advanced Power will cost Rs 45 as compared with Rs 42.

The price increase effected by HLL is expected to help the company to a very small extent in terms of improving profitability as input costs have risen considerably, analysts said.
