New Delhi , Feb. 3

FAST-FOOD chain Nirula's on Thursday announced a strategic alliance with Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) for setting up restaurants at IOC petrol bunks across the nation in a phased manner.

A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed by Mr T.L. Jain, Executive Director (Retail Sales) of IOC, and Mr J.S. Grover, Vice-President, Nirula's.

Under the agreement, Nirula's will set up `Family Style' restaurants and `Express' stores with ice-cream parlours at IOC petrol bunks for which IOC will provide retail-ready space.

The first such outlet is expected to come up by April in New Delhi.

In the first phase, Nirula's will open up to 10 outlets in the National Capital Region and then move towards highways connecting Delhi and Punjab, Mathura, Agra, Jaipur, Udaipur, Ahmedabad, Dehradun and Haridwar.

In the third phase, the cities where Nirula's is already present will be covered.

Once these regions have been tapped, Nirula's and IOC shall focus on an overall national expansion including Maharashtra, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh.

Established in 1934, Nirula's is a diversified group with a chain of hotels, `Family Style' restaurants, ice-cream parlours, pastry shops and food processing plants.
