`NDTV Profit doing well'

Nithya Subramanian

New Delhi, Feb. 4

THE Prannoy Roy-promoted business news channel launched during the middle of January seems to have done well, at least in its very second week, between January 23-29.

According to viewership data collated by TAM India covering all cable and satellite homes comprising individuals over the age of four across all cities, the market share for NDTV Profit stood at 47.8 per cent compared to CNBC-TV 18's 39.1 per cent.

Mr Sameer Manchanda, Director, NDTV, said: "The successful launch is due to business content, good distribution and brand equity. The business environment is good and we are seeing a good demand pull from the ground."

He added that the scenario looked encouraging, with the equity markets doing well backed by strong corporate performance and a good line-up of public offers from Jet Airways, Punjab National Bank and Oriental Bank of Commerce, among others.

Meanwhile, CNBC-TV 18 officials said that there are various parameters to judge the success of a channel and it is still early days.

"We are hoping that with many more players, the category would expand," they said.

Also, since NDTV Profit is a free-to-air channel, it is not comparable with CNBC-TV 18, which is a pay channel.
