SAIL pays Govt interim dividend of Rs 532 cr

STEEL Authority of India Ltd (SAIL) has presented a cheque of Rs 531.70 crore to the Government as interim dividend for the current financial year.

The Centre holds 85.82 per cent stake in the company. The company will soon be paying a dividend tax of Rs 80.98 crore to the national exchequer, a company release said.

The Minister for Steel, Chemicals and Fertilisers, Mr Ram Vilas Paswan, accompanied by the Steel Secretary, Dr Mano Ranjan, the SAIL Chairman, Mr V.S. Jain, and the Director (Finance), Mr G.C. Daga, had called on the Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, at his residence to present the cheque.

The total payout on account of interim dividend for SAIL will be Rs 619.56 crore. After payment to the Centre, the balance amount will be disbursed to other shareholders, numbering around 2,50,000. The interim dividend has been calculated at the rate of 15 per cent on paid-up equity. The previous highest figure for the company's dividend stood at 6.6 per cent announced in 1995-96.
