`Kerala Budget looks into DA payouts'

Our Bureau

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Finance Minister, Mr Vakkom Purushothaman, has said that the State Budget 2005-06 presented on Friday last provides for funds for three more DA instalments for employees to strike parity with the Central DA of 64 per cent.

Speaking at a `meet the press' programme here on Saturday, he said that one instalment of 4 per cent DA as already announced would be paid from April. Necessary orders have already been issued.

The budget was "realistic", and the proposals made will be implemented. Proposals that could not be implemented just did not find a place in the Budget, said Mr Purushothaman. Prices of commodities will come down after the implementation of VAT from April. Life-saving medicines will be included in the list of items exempted from VAT legislation.
