Central aid for rural water plan in Hyderabad

HYDERABAD: The Department of Drinking Water Supply, part of the Union Ministry of Rural Development, has sanctioned Rs 44.13 crore to the project management unit at Hyderabad towards second instalment of funds.

The instalment is against the provisional allocation of Rs 88.27 crore during 2004-05 for installation of one lakh hand pumps, providing drinking water facilities to one lakh rural primary schools and revival of one lakh traditional sources of drinking water supply in the State.

According to a Government release, the fresh instalment amount was released under the Rajiv Gandhi National Drinking Water Mission, a Centrally sponsored accelerated rural water supply programme.

Stating that the amount would be transferred to the AP Department of Panchayat and Engineering for implementation, the release said with this the entire allocation under PM's programme during 2004-05 stands released to the State.
