IIMs to start new courses from next year; raise student intake

THE IIMs have decided to start additional courses and increase the intake in many of the existing courses from the coming academic year.

The decision follows a directive from the Minister for Human Resource Development Minister, Mr Arjun Singh, to the Directors of the IIMs to broadbase their activities.

An official statement issued today states that among the new courses on offer are `Executive MBA' at IIM, Ahmedabad for which there will be 50 seats, a one-year `Global Managers' programme, for which there will be 30 seats, a one-year programme on `Leading and Managing' with 80 seats, and a one-year programme for `Development of Entrepreneurs and Managers-turned-Entrepreneurs' at IIM, Calcutta for which there will be 300 seats.

In addition, there is to be a six-month certificate programme in `Management for Defence Officers' at the Noida campus of IIM, Lucknow for which there will be 50 seats and an `Executive MBA through Distant Education Module' at IIM, Kozhikode for which there will be 100 seats.

Among the existing programmes in which the intake has been increased are the `Fellow Programme in Management', where the number of seats has been increased to 20, and the `Fellow Development Programme' at IIM, Ahmedabad where the number of seats have gone up to 40.

Besides, IIM, Bangalore will offer 260 seats at the `Post Graduate Programme' while the `Post Graduate Programme in Software Enterprise Management' will offer 150 seats.

The IIMs have also provided an amount of about Rs 2.35 crore need-based financial assistance to the students in the current academic year.
