Sand marvels

H. Vibhu

Sand sculptures by Lalji, a sculptor from Kollam district, on display at an exhibition in Kochi. Lalji uses seasand for his miniature sculptures. The glue made out of a tree sap is used as the adhesive in these sculptures. He has displayed sculptures of various facets of Gauthama Buddha and Lord Ganapati among modern art pieces. Buddha made of black seasand, only found in Kollam district, drew a large number of visitors. The prices range from Rs 80 to Rs 160 apiece.
