Steel Rourkela Steel posts all-time high Q3 output Our Bureau
Kolkata , Feb. 9 ROURKELA Steel Plant (RSP) is finally on the recovery path. In the first three quarters of 2004-05, the plant registered a net profit of Rs 554 crore. The plant had recorded a net profit of Rs 55 crore in the first quarter. In the second, the figure was Rs 197 crore and for the third, it was Rs 302 crore. In the third quarter, the plant set several records on the production front. It registered an all-time high production of hot metal at 0.468 million tonnes (m.t), continuous cast slabs at 0.441 m.t and saleable steel at 0.416 m.t. The despatch of saleable steel in the third quarter was 0.424 m.t. It is the highest ever third quarter performance of RSP since its inception. RSP's turnaround is expected to pick up momentum with the implementation of the SAIL Corporate Plan 2011-12. Technological upgradation of the steel melting shop IIthe hot strip mill, the cold rolling mill and the galvanising and tinning line are planned. Installation of a new wide plate mill of 0.7 mt per annum (mtpa) capacity and a new silicon steel mill of 0.075 mtpa is also being considered. All this is expected to increase steel production to 2.55 mtpa from 1.57 mtpa now.
