PM charts out policy agenda for ministries

Our Bureau

New Delhi , Feb. 9

THE Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, has approved a list of "policy thrust areas" for all major ministries and departments of the Central Government.

The list has been drawn up in consultation with the ministries and based on the major commitments of the National Common Minimum Programme, the commitments made by the Government through the President's Address to Parliament last year; the Union Budget speech, 2004-05, and the Prime Minister's announcements through his various important speeches.

The implementation of policies under these thrust areas, based on the list approved by the Prime Minister, would be tracked by the Prime Minister's Office on a regular basis. Ministries are asked to prepare a schedule of sequential steps with time frames for each thrust area, so that progress can be benchmarked against these.

The task list includes 46 items and various sub-items under each subject.
