Rubber declines further on sales

Our Correspondent

Kottayam , Feb. 10

SELLING by dealers initiated another fall in spot rubber prices on Thursday. Most of the buyers were inactive, while waiting for the market to cool down further.

Even the end of the tapping season and other favourable factors failed to enhance the domestic prices as the value-added tax and related issues continued to dampen sentiments. Sheet rubber slipped to Rs 51.50 from Rs 51.75 a kg in Kottayam and to Rs 51.75 from Rs 52.00 a kg in Kochi.

Rubber futures were also weak. February contract was quoted at Rs 51 (51.01), March at Rs 52.20 (52.59), April at Rs 55.55 (55.88) and May at Rs 57.00 (57.33) a kg for RSS 4. Market activities were in a low key.

Spot rubber rates a kg were as follows: RSS-4 51.50 (51.75), RSS-5 50 (50.50), ungraded 49.00 (49.50), ISNR 20 50.50 (51.00) and latex 60% 38.50 (39.00).
