CHENNAI: Tulika Publishers, in association with the Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation (HSBC), has produced a bilingual picture book, Takdir The Tiger Cub, for children in the 3-6 age-group. The author Latika Nath Rana, a wildlife biologist, through her book, offers a bonding for little children with the wild. There are photographs by her husband, Mr Nanda Rana, a wildlife photographer and film-maker.

The book is about a tiger cub, Takdir, who wanders away from his mother and sisters and what happens to him thereafter. The story is told through evocative photographs and a simple text. The proceeds of the book sales would be utilised to support nature and conservation projects in Bandhavgarh National Park in Madhya Pradesh.

During the book release, Ms Sandhya Rao, Senior Editor, Tulika Publishers, said: "We are constantly looking for creative ways to develop books that are challenging as well as attractive to children from different backgrounds, speaking different languages." The first copy of the book was presented to Mr Prakash Kuruvilla, Regional Head - Southern India, HSBC, who said that it was the bank's endeavour to support innovative projects for children which enhance their learning abilities.
