ASCI to host health meet in Hyderabad

THE Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, in collaboration with the Andhra Pradesh Government and the Administrative Staff College of India (ASCI), here will organise a two-day, Second Regional Workshop on Health Sector Reforms in India: Experiences of Select States beginning February 14.

The meet would focus on sharing the reform experiences from states engaged in the reforms and document the content and initiatives underway across the states of AP, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Maharashtra, Karnataka and Goa.

An experience-sharing National Workshop on the subject was held in September, 2003. A major issue realised was the need to provide forums to policymakers and stakeholders at State level to sound warning and disseminate information, according to a press release from the ASCI.

Recognising the need to provide evidence base information to policymakers and stakeholders on the nature and process of reforms as well as enable assessment of initiatives undertake as part of the process, the Bureau of Planning, Ministry of Health in collaboration with the India Country Office of the World Health Organisation (WHO), undertook a review and documentation of health sector reform initiatives underway in India.

As part of the first phase, reform initiatives in nine states were compiled, the release said.
