Hyderabad , Feb. 10

AIMED at attracting more global research and development (R&D) companies and manufacturing firms in the area of biotechnology to locate their facilities in Andhra Pradesh, the State Government has decided to strengthen infrastructure, the State Principal Secretary for Industries and Commerce, Mr K.V. Rao, has said.

He was addressing the inaugural session of the three-day BioAsia-2005, a global bio-business summit being organised by the State Government in association with Genome Valley and All India Biotech Association (AIBA), here on Thursday.

Mr Rao said the ICICI Knowledge Park as the R&D hub of Genome Valley and Shapoorji Pallonji Biotech Park would provide world-class infrastructure. On the occasion, Mr Rao issued land allotment letters to three biotechnology companies that would set up their facilities at the S.P. Biotech Park.

Reading out the message of the Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, he said the Government is currently identifying additional area of 1,000 acres in the Genome Valley for further expansion of biotech cluster. As an immediate step, an extent of 101 acres of land was being allotted to start phase-III of the S.P. Biotech Park. The first two phases of the Park were nearly occupied, he said.

In addition to this, the Government has also allotted an area of 218 acres for a Marine Biotech Park, currently being developed in Visakhapatnam near the Pharma City at Parawada. Further, an Agri Incubator was also coming up at Icrisat, Mr Rao said.
