Shipping NMPT sets new record in handling iron ore concentrates Our Bureau
Mangalore , Feb. 11 THE New Mangalore Port has created a record by handling large parcel-size iron ore concentrates. A press release from the New Mangalore Port Trust said here that m.v. Ruby Idaha of Pacsari Pvt Ltd, Singapore, with a length of 225 metres and draft of 12.5 metres, was berthed at the port on February 9, and loaded 74,338 tonnes of iron ore concentrates. It sailed out on February 10. The entire consignment was shipped to Kobey Steel of Japan. Kudremukh Iron Ore Company Ltd (KIOCL) is the consignee of the cargo. It is for the first time that the port is handling such a large parcel-size iron ore concentrate ever since the commencement of iron ore export by KIOCL in 1980. The release said that 67,677 tonnes of iron ore concentrates, which was exported to Japan in m.v. Caucacus Maru during June 1989 was the earlier record.
