Kerala: IT exams dates announced

Our Bureau

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Dates for the IT practical examination at the Secondary School Leaving Certificate level, whose conduct was muddled over the choice of the software to be deployed, have now been fixed following conciliatory talks.

These exams will now be held between February 17 and 28, the Minister for Education, Mr Mohammed Basheer, said here on Friday.

Earlier, the Kerala State Teachers Association had threatened to boycott the exam unless open source software was employed, putting the future of lakhs of students in jeopardy. The Minister assured the KSTA that the `Softexam' software would be discontinued from next year and replaced with open source software.
