Hyderabad , Feb. 11

THE Pune-based Venkateshwara Hatcheries (VH) group is making a debut into the rapidly expanding market of branded wheat flour and pulses. Uttara Foods and Feeds Pvt Ltd, a VH group company, will process and market the products under the brand name "Venky's".

The Rs 300-crore Uttara Foods is currently engaged in the marketing of processed chicken products under Venky's brand. It is also in the pelletised poultry feed business.

According to the company Managing Director, Mr B. Venkatesh Rao, who is also the Joint Managing Director of Venkateshwara Hatcheries, Venky's wheat flour and pulses will be initially launched in Mumbai, Pune and Hyderabad. Tur dal will be launched first followed by Urad dal and Moong dal.

In a press release here on Friday, he said that the company had invested Rs 8 crore to set up a 100-tonnes per day capacity plant for processing of pulses at Ambat near Aurangabad. A wheat flour plant, which also has 100-tpd capacity, had been set up at Khetwale near Pune at a cost of Rs 6 crore.

Mr Rao stated that Uttara Foods is also making a foray into the international market. "The first container will be shipped soon to Dubai and more orders are pouring in from West Asia. We are, however, keen on creating a niche in the domestic market first", he added.
