Foreign Trade Italian President, trade team coming today Our Bureau
New Delhi , Feb. 11 THE Italian President, Mr Carlo Azeglio Ciampi, who begins a five-day visit to India from Saturday, will be accompanied by the largest Italian business delegation to visit here. Addressing a press conference, the Italian Ambassador to India, Mr Antonio Armellini, said that the delegation, which includes about 30-40 Italian chief executive officers, represents an aggregate turnover in excess of $100 billion. "The delegation includes those companies which already have a presence in India and those who are coming to look at the future," the Ambassador said. During the visit, the `Italy-India business week' is to be held which is to be attended by 200 Italian companies. Besides, a series of exhibitions are to be organised with about 50 contemporary Italian artists' masterpieces on display. The Presidential delegation will include four cabinet ministers and one-deputy minister. The visit will also see several accords being signed between the two countries in diverse fields. The Ambassador added that Italy was keen to do more business with India not only in items such as leather, automobile and automobile components but also in areas such as development of infrastructure including ports, roads and airports. "We also feel that the time is right to look at agro business and agro food," Mr Armellini said. The Ambassador added that the current volume of bilateral trade was well below the actual potential.
