Apollo Group to buy hospitals in E. Europe

Hyderabad , Feb. 12

EYEING the healthcare market in the European Union, Apollo Group of Hospitals is planning to acquire hospitals in Eastern Europe.

"We are looking at buying assets in the region to cater to the EU market. We have started dialogue with some players," Ms Shobana Kamineni, Executive Director of the group, told Business Line.

The plans would be finalised by the year-end.

Travel time from many West European countries was just around 4-5 hours, she said, explaining the rationale behind looking at acquisitions in the eastern region nations.

The group would open a hospital in Bangladesh also, keeping in mind the potential there.

The corporate hospitals major had already opened a full-fledged facility at Colombo. It also has a presence in the Gulf region.

The group was planning another unit in Goa exclusively for overseas patients. "We are looking at Kerala too," she said.
