Electoral rolls with photos in Kerala

Our Bureau

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala would be the first State to come out with electoral rolls featuring photographs of voters in all 140 Assembly constituencies, the Deputy Election Commissioner, Mr A.N. Jha, has said.

Speaking at a meet-the-press programme here, Mr Jha said that of the total electorate of 2.08 crore, 98.3 per cent had already been brought under the coverage of electoral rolls with voter photographs.

The Election Commission would launch a drive to identify voters who did not possess a voter identity card. It would also embark on a house-to-house verification soon to achieve 100 per cent coverage. In the summary revision conducted recently, 5.86 lakh voters had been added to the rolls, with an equal number being deleted as part of the weeding-out process.
