APTransco launches energy conservation drive

Hyderabad , Feb. 13

TRANSMISSION Corporation of Andhra Pradesh Ltd (APTransco) launched a publicity blitz on Sunday in electronic media asking the farming community to be prudent as they consume energy.

The campaign, which includes documentary films and advertisements, is aimed at educating farmers on the need to use energy-efficient devices.

"This would ensure proper supply of quality power," said Ms Rachel Chatterjee, Chairman and Managing Director, Transco.

In an open letter to the farmers, she said that the utility has prepared an action plan that envisages widespread campaign throughout the State, taking a panchayat or village a unit.

"90 per cent of farmers using agricultural pump sets would benefit from the free power scheme," she added.

Good capacitors increase voltage profile by 10 per cent and save 10-15 per cent of power. They would also help reduce the incidence of motor burnouts.

"Employing energy efficient equipment like ISI-certified pump-sets, we can save up to 50 per cent of power we generally consume," she said. "If we succeed in saving at least 30 per cent of energy, we can save 4,200 million units."
