The government has done the right thing by setting up the National Investment Fund. The money that comes from disinvestment can be used in such vital areas as health, education and employment generation.

The UPA should disinvest and privatise the mismanaged PSUs in a big way, and fast. Still there are thousands of ailing PSUs in which no one would invest, and where privatisation would be welcome. The profit-making PSUs also have much more potential than their current performance. The Left should realise that the country's economic health is more important than the health of the PSUs per se. It should be concerned about the below par output of these units and not from where the input comes — the government or private players.
