Using strikes as a weapon

This refers to the article "On strikes as a weapon" (Business Line, February 12).

At present the West Bengal Chief Minister, Mr Buddhadeb Bhattacharya is drawing much attention for his views on foreign investment, trade union militancy etc.

His one-point programme is rapid development of the State. That means a balanced development of agriculture and industry, the rural and urban sectors is necessary if India is to shine.

The veteran Left leader and former West Bengal Chief Minister, Mr Jyoti Basu, is still influential in shaping the Left's opinion on the Centre's policies.

This will facilitate the Left in giving more importance to agriculture and rural development.

Why not the Left party members project a Bengal model for a balanced development rather than opposing the Centre's economic policy that they support in Bengal?
