Tea Exporters active at Coonoor tea auctions P.S. Sundar
Coonoor , Feb. 14 EXPORTERS continued to be forceful at tea auctions conducted by the Coonoor Tea Trade Association here this weekend, when a volume of 11.43 lakh kg, comprising 8.46 lakh kg of leaf and 2.97 lakh kg of dusts, was offered on sale. The buyers for Egypt, Iraq, West Asia, Pakistan, Poland, Russia and other CIS markets were seen actively bidding even as domestic dealers and some corporate buyers were subdued. The medium and plainer categories of CTC teas received good support from exporters to Iraq. Tea Time bought a lot of volume for Iraq. The buyers for Russian and CIS outlets preferred the pekoes, SBOM, BOPL and other bolder grades. Ambo and Siewart and Dholakia who bought cleaner, blacker and smaller grades of teas for Pakistan at around Rs 44 a kg, however, felt, more teas of their choice were not available. J.V. Gokul supported the market for West Asia. Madhu Jayanthi was selective. On an average, the export sale ranged from Rs 42 to Rs 47 a kg. On the corporate front, Hindustan Lever Ltd bought better medium teas, but paid around Rs 55 a kg. Indcoserve bought selectively some better medium smaller grades. Upcountry buyers were choosy on the brighter liquoring teas. Consequently, the high-priced teas lost Rs 3 a kg over the previous week. Only some 30,000 kg could be sold for over Rs 65 a kg. Plain dust grades fetched bids in the range of Rs 36 to 38, while the brighter liquoring grades got Rs 64 to 65.
