Reach plans 100 academies for retail training

Hyderabad , Feb. 14

KEEPING in mind an estimated requirement of 20 lakh trained manpower for the retail industry in the next six years, the Chennai-based Reach Academy is planning to open 100 franchisee academies all over the country in the next three years.

Addressing a press conference here recently , Mr Satish Rao, Director of the academy, said the retail industry in the organised sector was in for a major expansion. "Huge investments have been announced by major retail chains. But there is a dearth of trained manpower," he said.

Mr Rao was in the city to launch one of the first of the 100 franchise training centres.

With a view to bridging the gap, the academy would train the unemployed in a variety of categories required by the retail industry.

Quoting KSA Technopark, he said the organised retail sector would grow to Rs 30,000 crore by 2005, comprising six per cent of the total retail market. Though organised retailing was in its nascent stage, there was a huge employment potential in this sector, considering the expansion plans of major retail players.

The academy would offer diploma courses as well as customised training modules based on the needs of its clients.
