Education Padma Seshadri group opens Millennium School in Chennai Our Bureau
Chennai , Feb. 14 THE Padma Seshadri Bala Bhavan (PSBB) Group of Schools has tied up with Learning Leadership Foundation (LLF), a public charitable trust, to set up the PSBB Millennium School here. Mr Shantanu Prakash, Trustee, LLF, said that the investment in the school would be about Rs 6 crore. The co-educational school will be located on GST Road (near Kathippara Junction) and will open for pre-kindergarten (Pre-KG) to Class 5 in the coming academic year. The fees would be about Rs 7,900 per term. This will be followed by a second school on the Old Mahabalipuram Road, which is likely to start by 2006, and will cater to students from Class 6. Dr Y.G. Parthasarthy, Dean and Director, PSBB, said that the children would take the same entrance exams taken by the children trying for admission in any PSBB school. There will be a written and oral test for Class 1 to Class 5. Admission to the Pre-KG will be after observation of the child's skills, she said. She said that the new school would be a blend of Indian values with global vision to enable the children to succeed in today's world. It is important that the children are taught Indian values and culture, which in turn will dilute the negative influences from the West, she said. Mr Prakash said the new school would be equipped with educational tools like the "smart class programme," which brings technology to the classroom. He said that this institution would help the child to imbibe the best of both worlds. The first PSBB School was set up in 1958 in Nungambakkam. Today it has three branches with more than 8,000 students and about 500 staff members. LLF, comprising a group of educationists, has come out with professional development initiatives for teachers and has been working in the field of education for a decade.
