Budget 100% depreciation on IT products sought Our Bureau
Kolkata , Feb. 14 THE Indian IT industry, along with its associations such as Nasscom and MAIT, will present a White Paper to the Central Government by March. The White Paper would focus on the penetration and growth of personal computers and the Internet and the development of multi-lingual software, according to Mr Ajai Chowdhry, Chairman and CEO of HCL Infosystems Ltd. Speaking to newspersons while announcing the launch the EzeeBee Pride personal computer that is priced at Rs 12,990, Mr Chowdhry said the Government must take steps to facilitate the growth of the domestic IT market. Implementation of e-governance projects and installation of state-wide area networks would go a long way in this regard, he said. According to him, the industry wants 100 per cent depreciation allowed on IT products. This would encourage companies and individuals to invest in IT hardware. He hoped that with the launch of the EzeeBee Pride, HCL's share of the domestic market for personal computers would go up from the current 14 per cent. Mr Chowdhry said it would be HCL's endeavour to bring down the price of personal computers and computer hardware.
