Panel to consider bidders' proposal today for airports revamp

New Delhi , Feb.14

THE four-member empowered Group of Ministers (e-GoM) is scheduled to meet here on Tuesday to consider the Request for Proposal (RFP) to be provided to the bidders shortlisted for the modernisation and restructuring programme of Delhi and Mumbai airports.

The RFP, once cleared by the e-GoM will be provided to the nine parties shortlisted for the airport modernisation programme. The four-member e-GoM is headed by the Defence Minister, Mr Pranab Mukherjee, and includes both the Ministers for Finance and Civil Aviation. The Government is said to be considering allowing the successful bidder to lease the airport initially for a period of 30 years, extendable by another 30 years. Incidentally this is similar to the method that is being followed at the greenfield airport projects coming up in both Hyderabad and Bangalore. Sources said those joint venture partners who would provide the most modern airports in the shortest possible time would get higher weightage. Among the entities shortlisted for the proposed modernisation and restructuring programme include Reliance, DLF, Bharti, L&T and GMR group.
