IRAN has said that it is systematically expanding its gas exports and according high interest in serving the energy-hungry Indian gas market.
"We are systematically expanding our gas exports. We have high interests in serving the Indian gas market," Mr M. H. Rahbari, Member of the Board, National Iranian Gas Export Corporation (NIGEC), said while speaking at the Third Asia Gas Buyers' Summit here on Monday.
With both India and Pakistan seeking more gas from Iran, NIGEC will set up a joint task group to study this demand and commission a detailed feasibility report, Mr Rahbari said.
India and Pakistan have sought more gas from Iran (which has the second largest gas reserves). From the earlier levels of 75 million standards cubic metre (MSCM) and 50 MSCM respectively by the two countries, India alone is now demanding 100 MSCM.
Lauding the recent efforts made by the Indian Government on the gas pipeline project, Mr Rahbari said that time has come for the two nations to act decisively in their best interests. "This is the time for the two countries to act and execute the project faster," he stated.
The Iranian delegation, headed by Mr Rahbari, will discuss all issues in the proposed pipeline project as well as details of the 75-MSCM gas that was finalised last month between India and Iran.
