Texprocil to study global markets

Our Bureau

Coimbatore , Feb. 15

THE Cotton Textiles Export Promotion Council (Texprocil) is to collect detailed data on countries that are potential markets for India's textiles.

The Council, which recently carried out market intelligence studies in 11 strategically important countries, plans to follow this up with similar studies in another 20 countries, according to a Texprocil communication.

The Council recently commissioned Dun and Bradstreet, market information consultancy firm, to undertake market studies in the US, Italy, Germany, France, the UK, Brazil, the UAE, Bangladesh, Japan, China, Hong Kong and Mauritius that constitute 50 per cent of the total exports from India.

These markets assume importance because they accounted for 25 per cent ($11.1 billion) of the global textile imports valued at $43.3 billion in 2003.

The findings of the Dun and Bradstreet market studies for these countries, already received by the Council, were released at a seminar on Tuesday..

The studies covered key trade parameters and will provide analytical overview in areas such as structure of the textile industry, volume and origin of imports, export profile, import policies, including tariff and non-tariff barriers.
