New Projects Shaw Wallace seeks to expand breweries' capacity Our Bureau
Hyderabad , Feb. 16 SHAW Wallace Breweries Ltd (SWBL) is seeking permission from the respective State Governments for expansion of the installed capacity of its breweries spread over nine States in the Country. "We want to set up global standard breweries so as to achieve economies of scale," the company's Operations Director - South, Mr Ashok Dhingra, said, adding that a reasonable capacity of a brewery should be at least 5-lakh hecta litres per annum. Mr Dhingra said that SWBL was currently modernising all its 10 breweries in the country. The company had earmarked Rs 100 crore for this purpose in the current fiscal. SWBL was also in the process of finalising next year's budget for upgradation of the breweries. SWBL on Tuesday launched "Mee Arogya Mitrudu", a primary healthcare project, in Medak district of Andhra Pradesh where its Charminar Brewery is located. As a part of the project, a fully equipped mobile clinic with a doctor and a nurse will visit 10 villages surrounding the brewery for providing free primary healthcare. Mr Dhingra said that though the initial cost of the project was only Rs 16 lakh, the recurring cost would be much more. Rural Education and Agricultural Development Society (READS), a non-government organisation working in the area of community health and sanitation, would implement the project. SWBL is a leading brewer in the domestic market with an estimated market share of 37 per cent.
