Budget Agri-Biz & Commodities - Exports & Imports Ease export norms for agri products: CII Our Bureau
Hyderabad , Feb. 16 THE Confederation of Indian Industry (CII - AP) has asked the State Government to set up Agriculture Export Promotion Council to make the farming community aware of the potential in exports. In a pre-Budget wish list, the CII said export of agricultural products should be made hassle free in terms of procedures and licences. The wish list was submitted to the Finance Minister, Mr K. Rosaiah, by Mr Ramesh Datla and Mr M.K. Patodia, Chairman and Vice-Chairman of CII (AP) at the Assembly here on Tuesday. The CII laid emphasis on easy accessibility of credit to agriculturalists in order to make them competitive. It asked the Government to make all efforts to cut down on revenue and fiscal deficits. "The Government should set apart a certain part of direct and indirect tax revenues for the development and maintenance of the industry and infrastructure. This would ensure long-term sustainable growth," a CII press release said. The chambers called for extension of single-window clearance at the second stage - post approval stage. It also wanted the Government to promote self-certification and rationalisation of inspections. The CII stressed on the importance of forging an alliance of government, non-governmental agencies and research institutes to explore new techniques to further productivity and cost-effectiveness in agricultural sector. Calling for fast track development of the international airport, the CII said an industrial estate should be attached to it in order to help export-oriented companies. It also observed that improved air connectivity to Visakhapatnam would attract more businesses. There was a need for modernising the Visakhapatnam port, while developing minor ports. The CII also had a word of caution as far as governance was concerned. "There is a need to check Government employment. Excess or surplus staff, if any, should be retrained and encouraged to set up their own businesses." It called for disinvestment in loss-making public sector enterprises, redeploying the manpower suitably elsewhere. "The State needs to create an investment-friendly environment through employing simplified procedures, better fiscal management and thrust on world class infrastructure," the memorandum said.
