ITC may launch spices, pulses under `Aashirvaad'

Sindhu J. Bhattacharya

New Delhi , Feb. 17

ITC Ltd's Foods Division appears to be on course to achieve the Rs 500-crore sales target it has set for itself by 2007. On the anvil are additions to the staples portfolio under the `Aashirvaad' brand, which already comprises atta and salt. New launches under Aashirvaad could include spices and pulses.

The Foods Division Chief Executive Officer, Mr Ravi Naware, told Business Line, "We will expand with more staples over the next 3-4 months. Also, the Sunfeast biscuit range will be expanded and some new product concepts are being introduced under the ready-to-eat product category."

He said the company was on course with the Rs 500-crore sales target within the next two years. And even as the company had no immediate plans to re-enter the snacks business after the debacle of the `Bischips' brand launched some time ago, Mr Naware said the biscuit portfolio has been showing "good" growth.
