Truck, bus tyre output rebounds in Dec 2004

TRUCK and bus tyre production staged a smart recovery in December 2004 to touch 9.68 lakh tyres as compared to a production of 9.04 lakh units in the previous month.
The production in December 2004 was the best performance so far for the tyre industry in the current fiscal.
Production in the truck and bus tyre category, which accounted for over 60 per cent of total turnover (in value terms), stood at 9.22 lakh tyres in October 2004 and 9.23 lakh units in September 2004. The output was 9.39 lakh tyres in November 2003. The export in December 2004 was up to 2.44 lakh units from 2.31 lakh tyres in the previous month (1.83 lakh units in December 2003).
According to the data released by the Automotive Tyre Manufacturers' Association (ATMA), passenger car tyre production by ATMA member companies surged to 11.28 lakh tyres in December 2004; 9.89 lakh in the previous month (9.58 lakh in December 2003).
Production of LCV tyres went up in December 2004 to 3.56 lakh tyres from 3.28 lakh in the previous month (2.83 lakh in December 2003).
