Kingfisher Airlines to buy 3 Airbus aircraft

Our Bureau

Mumbai , Feb. 18

KINGFISHER Airlines on Friday announced that it has signed a contract to acquire three 144-seater Airbus A-319 aircraft.

The aircraft will be based in Bangalore and deployed on feeder routes, helping the airline to meet the route disbursal guidelines.

According to Dr Vijay Mallya, Chairman of the UB group, the airline was fortunate in signing up the aircraft in a tight market. They have a list price of $51 million each and will be financed through the ECA financing route.

Two of the aircraft are expected to join the fleet in December 2005 while the third one will join the fleet in January 2006.

The airline, promoted by the UB group, had earlier signed contracts to acquire 10 A-320 aircraft on firm order with options to buy another 20 until 2008 at a cost of up to $1.8 billion (Rs 8,100 crore). Besides, the airline will lease four A-320 aircraft.
