THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Chief Minister, Mr Oommen Chandy, has assured members of local body institutions that their request for more time to utilise the maintenance grant would be taken up with the Department of Finance.

Mr Chandy said this while inaugurating the Panchayat Day celebrations here on Saturday. The issue, he said, had been brought to his notice earlier but could not be considered owing to what he described as practical problems.

The Government would favourably consider the panchayat presidents' demand for telephone allowance. The demand for pension for panchayat members was also under consideration.
