Rubber improves

Our Correspondent

Kottayam , Feb. 21

SPOT rubber prices improved marginally on Monday. As a result of the discussion with the Government to be held on Tuesday at Thiruvananthapuram, the rubber dealers expect a favourable turn in VAT related issues.

This has slowed down the selling pressure in the market while selected grades firmed up on covering purchases.

NMCE rubber futures showed a positive trend even against a weak TOCOM. The March contract was traded at Rs 52.40 (Rs 51.99), April at Rs 55.96 (Rs 55.66), May at Rs 57.62 (Rs 57.31) and June at Rs 58.45 (Rs 58.17) per kg for RSS 4. The transactions were low.

RSS 3 was steady at Rs 56.09 at Bangkok.

The March futures at TOCOM for the same grade declined to129.8 yen from 131.8 yen on Friday.

The physical rubber prices per kg on Monday were RSS 4 Rs 50.75 (Rs 50.50); RSS 5 Rs 49.50 (Rs 49.25); ungraded Rs 48.75 (Rs 48.50); ISNR 20 Rs 50 (Rs 50); and latex 60% Rs 38 (Rs 38).
