Heritage fest in Karaikudi

MADURAI: The State Tourism Department is organising the Chettinad Heritage Festival at Karaikudi from March 3 to 5.

The programme will showcase the Chettinad tradition, architecture and culture. Depending on the response, the fest may be conducted annually.

The highlights of the festival include an exhibition on Chettinad architecture, the objects used by the people of Chettinad and their lifestyle.

Folk music and dance performances have also been planned. Some of the dances include karagam, kalaiyattam, kavadi, kudiraiattam, thevarattam, silambattam, sevaiyattam, poikkalkudirai and kaliyattam, the music programmes include kombu, nagaswaram and other instrumental performances. Tours to various places of interest will also be conducted.
