Our Bureau

New Delhi , Feb. 21

THE Union Cabinet on Monday referred a Bill that proposes to set up a disaster management authority to a Group of Ministers (GoM), which is expected to be set up soon.

The Bill is likely to be introduced in Parliament during the forthcoming Budget session.

The move to establish a disaster management authority was expedited by the Government after the tsunami. The authority is expected to lay down a mechanism at the Central, State and district levels and will provide for disbursement of funds for immediate rescue and relief operations.
