Bangalore , Feb. 22

NVIDIA Corp, the US-based graphics and digital media processor company, on Tuesday announced the opening of an India design centre with plans to hire about 100-150 engineers and set up an R&D wing and data centre to allow top-to-bottom design of advanced graphics and digital media processors for a wide range of platforms, according to the CEO and co-founder, Mr Jen Hsun Huang.

NVidia would also like to enter into partnerships with Wipro, Infosys, Sasken, Sify etc. to cultivate the emerging market in India, Mr Jen said.

"I look forward to the Internet cafes driving the penetration of the Internet and driving usage and applications,'' he said.

The company invested about $500 million in R&D last year and "we could be seeing 25 per cent of nVidia's R&D investment happening in India pretty soon, Mr Jen said, adding that it was the availability of quality engineering talent that would dictate the R&D investment. He said the company had no set time or investment targets for region.

As nVidia expands into new product areas including wireless media processors for mobile phones, the company intends to continue its R&D investment, Mr Jen said.
