A corruption-free economy

This refers to the article "Capital punishment for corruption" (Business Line, February 22).

It is not altogether impossible for India to become a corruption-free country.

A strict system of time-bound compliance to rules, accountability to the law, a sense of responsibility and awareness are the keys to making India free of corruption.

For example, introducing a procedure where birth and death certificates are to be issued within certain days of applying, with punitive action reserved for those who fail to comply and a system put in place to monitor the procedure will minimise corruption.

Further, the legal system for quick settlement of cases is necessary. If the law takes its rightful stand no one will take the law into their hand.
