Surya's Marine unveils LPG kit for fishing boats

Kochi , Feb. 23

THE Aluva-based Surya's Marine LPG Kit has developed a kit for fishermen to use onboard their boats.

The company has got clearance from the Union Shipping Ministry for its marketing as the LPG kit could bring down the fuel costs by 70 per cent, Mr Abu N. Marakar, Managing Director said. This is for the first time that a Kerala-based company has developed a kit, which has been cleared by the IIT Kolkatta, he said.

The company has received the ISI certification for the product and also tied up with Indian Oil Corporation for the supply of commercial LPG for fishermen. IOC will construct LPG pumps and gas tankers for the gas supply, he added.

The product has been developed after 8 years of extensive research and it can be used in the existing petrol and kerosene engines of fishing boats. The company has developed three types of kits with a capacity of 9.9 HP, 25 HP and 40 HP at a cost of Rs 15,000, Rs 17,000 and Rs 19,000 respectively.
