THE Hyderabad zone of the Customs and Central Excise Department has achieved revenue of Rs 2,252 crore up to January as against a target of Rs 2,902 crore for the financial year 2004-05.
Of the Rs 2,252 crore, customs collections stood at Rs 317 crore and service tax receipts at Rs 293.36 crore, Mr R.J. Beley, Commissioner of the zone, said here in a press release.
He said the department initiated several steps such as self-assessment procedure and citizen-centric IT-enabled service, making the services more accessible.
"We have introduced e-filing of central excise returns. Assesses need not come to Central excise offices to file their monthly returns anymore," he said.
The EDI (Electronic Data Interchange) system, introduced recently, facilitated online clearances of import and export goods.
The Commissioner said Mr J.M. Lyngdoh, former Chief Election Commissioner, would be the chief guest at the Central Excise Day celebrations to be held on Thursday.
